Physiotherapy uses physical means such as exercise, massage, mobilization, stretches, movement, re-education, taping, ultrasound, electrical nerve stimulation (TENS), Increased range of movement in injured joints, increased strength and endurance in pain and contribute to a general increase in work performance. A typical session involves taking a history of the problem through examination and in-depth analysis to establish the diagnosis and reveal the underlying contributing factors. Injured worker education is important. One study showed that if patients attending physiotherapy were able to explain their diagnosis, their improvement was greater. Liaison with other staff, Occupational Therapist, Psychologist and Doctors is used to complete the picture. Get someone treated early! Studies show a delay in getting someone to treatment resulted in much more down time. On average patients are seen that day or the next day. Initiating therapy early in the course of treatment is associated with significantly fewer doctors visits, earlier discharge from care, fewer restricted workdays and fewer days away from work. A review of The Health Advantage statistics show that on average, the most frequently treated condition was Lower Back Pain.
